The free web space host runs PHP version 5.1.6 with safe_mode on (PHP5). There are two textlinks at the bottom of free web pages: one to their freehosting homepage, and the other to their 1-cent hosting upgrade (the ubiquitous hostgator coupon which only gives you one month web hosting at that price before paying the full price). Their hosting server is pretty fast loading.
This is almost the best web host I have ever seen and used. It has only ever been down about 1 time as long as I have been using it, and it has great auto-install scripts, although, as it has safe mode on, some of them do not work.
Usually if you need a file type allowed, as long as you give a good reason, they will allow it for your account. It has friendly staff and support. However the only contact for them is support tickets, which you have to be logged in to use. All around, if you want a free website that is for personal use or business only wanting a sub domain, this is for you! 
If you are a professional business with a domain name, they do not offer sub domains or email.
